OMEGA Speedmaster Pre-Moon Transitional, 145.022-69 Cal 861
This vintage Speedmaster has all the right details from the original "flat-link" bracelet and "Dot Over Ninety" bezel to the Omega logo signed crystal.
THE FULL STORY
Omega introduced the ref. 145.022-69 in 1969, and it was in production until approximately 1971. This model is the last Speedmaster Professional to have a caseback with no reference to the Moon landing. As a result, collectors refer to these watches as "Pre-Moon." This reference is also the last Speedmaster to feature a stepped dial and a Dot-Over-90 (DON) bezel. It was the first Speedmaster Professional to use the 861 movement, replacing the legendary caliber 321. Omega also changed the logo on the dial of the ref. 145.022-69 from applied to painted.
Making this example special is the condition and overall look; this is exactly what we like to see from a pre-Moon Speedmaster. The "flat-link" bracelet makes this Speedmaster even look better. This bracelet fits the condition of the watch well and has a great vintage feel on the wrist; it's really a great package.
Condition wise, the surface of the dial is preserved in excellent condition with a great matte finish. Specific to earlier vintage Speedmasters is what collectors refer to as a "step dial." The step is prominently seen on this example right before the minute hash marks. This added dimension makes a big difference in how the watch looks in the metal, making the dial pop. Another early detail is the "Dot Over Ninety" bezel which is nicely faded.
